I went to under graduate college at Massachusetts College of Art and Design where I got a bachelors degree in Art Education
I worked with the Reach Program at the Ottoson for a little while
I swooped into my art teacher position after Mr. Corey decided to take a job elsewhere, my first year was 2015-2016!
Fun Facts about me:
I am a practicing artist who loves to make art in different ways such as hand cut paper, watercolor painting, digital mixed media, and much more - check out the slideshow to view some of my artwork!
I currently have some of my artwork on display in various places such as Mass Eye and Ear in Boston, Arrow Street Architects in Boston, the Pearl Street Gallery in Chelsea, MA and the Davis Gallery in Worcester, MA!
Funny story - one of my favorite pieces that was hanging at Arrow Street Architects in Boston, MA was recently stolen!! Thankfully the company paid me for it, but I felt somewhat flattered to know someone liked my artwork so much that they stole it!
Things I love to do: make art, go see art, go camping, go hiking, explore waterfalls/swimming holes, travel, listen to music, go to concerts and so many more things!
Sitting at Texas Falls in Vermont!
Check out a slideshow below of a few pieces of my artwork!
About the Ottoson Art Department Dream Team Starting this year, the Ottoson Art Department has become a dream team! It consists of Ms. McKenna, Mrs. Serafini, and Mrs. Ford as well as special guest Ms. Blais, who is student teaching with Mrs. Serafini and was a classmate with Ms. McKenna at Massachusetts College of Art and Design! This year is special because we have really been trying to create an art department that anyone can access. We are designing our lesson plans and curriculum together as a team and doing all the same lessons with our classes. This way, all students are on the same page, learning the same things and no one is missing out on something another class is doing. We also thought this would be a great opportunity for students to get to know the entire art department team, since we are doing all the same projects, students can go to any teacher with any question or concern rather than try and track down their specific teacher. We can also use this as an opportunity for our own development as teachers, we are constantly able to talk about our classes with each other and help each other with strategies we find helpful that pertain to certain classes or lessons. It truly is a dream team and we are so excited to continue and see what all these amazing students create!! Our student learning goal for the year is: Students will be able to connect their own work to the work of contemporary artists introduced in class. Students will show evidence of this in the material or inspirational choices they make. Students will be assessed based on written artist statements and class presentations.
