As the art department begins new projects with students we often run into different materials that the students may need, if you have any of the following items and would like to get rid of them, please bring them by the art room!
-Pencils (even broken ones - a specific group in the 8th grade needs pencils for their project, if teachers could collect any abandoned or broken pencils in their classrooms, it would be greatly appreciated!) -Metal wire (even bendable wire hangers) -String of any kind (yarn, rope, ribbon, thread, etc.) -Post-it notes -Cardboard -Small types of materials (buttons, beads, thread, various bits and pieces) -Various kinds of paper (scrapbooking, wrapping paper, cellophane, etc.) -Fabric (even scraps) -Electronic / technological parts from computers etc. -Odds and ends you could imagine a student might get inspired by to create something!
If you are unsure if we will want what you have, feel free to email us or come by the art rooms! Or just drop off whatever you have on the tables outside either art room (322 & 326) and we will get rid of it if we don't want it!
Get Involved with the super exciting JR Ottoson Inside Out Project!
After an unfortunate run in with some racist graffiti last year, the Ottoson Art Department is gearing up for a BIG responsive art project that we hope to involve as many people as possible from the community! If you haven't seen international street artist, JR's Ted Talk which inspired our idea, check it out here! Listen to JR explain his work and more specifically the Inside Out project that the Ottoson will be taking part in. We will have weekly meetings on thursdays after school if you would like to be involved. We will be looking for students to be photographers, models and more! Check out our Facebook page for updates: https://www.facebook.com/insideoutottoson/?ref=aymt_homepage_panel
The art department at OMS is always looking for donations of materials so that our students have a variety of options when making their art. If you ever have any of the following materials and would like to get rid of them, we will gladly take them off your hands!! Just send them in with your child and ask them to drop them off outside either one of the art rooms (room 322 and room 326) or just bring them in and leave them somewhere!
Materials we are always accepting: -Tissues -Plastic grocery bags -Paper bags -Magazines -Newspapers -Plastic containers (with or without lids, any size, but the small yogurt containers are really helpful!!) -Any sorts of bins/boxes that would be helpful for sorting materials -Any clean recyclables (plastic bottles, plastic vegetable/fruit containers, paper towel/toilet paper tubes, clementine netting, egg cartons, etc.) -Junk drawer finds -Fabric / fabric scraps -Yarn / string / thread -Wire of varying kinds (metal wire, bendable wire hangers, electronic wires, etc.) -Broken / old computer or tech parts -Packaging (peanuts, bubble wrap, foam, etc.) -Anything else you think a kid might get excited about making into something! -And of course any art supplies!
Thank you in advance, it is with your help that our students are able to make such amazing things!!
